Changes are on the way when it comes to energy efficiency standards for HVAC products. Does this mean you need to worry or make plans to buy a new HVAC system or heat pump? No, it does not. However, it helps to know about upcoming changes and how you can prepare for the future.
What, Exactly, Is Changing?
The Department of Energy is increasing minimum efficiency ratings for HVAC systems. The standards vary by geographic region. Lennox is addressing the new requirements by ensuring there are products that meet these new requirements available for installation by your preferred Lennox® dealer. Your dealer can explain if there are any new requirements for your region.
When Will the New Regulations Begin Rolling Out?
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will begin enforcing new efficiency standards for split-system air conditioners and split-system heat pumps on January 1, 2023.
The new regulations and timing vary by region. Your preferred Lennox dealer will know how the new rules impact your state.
Why the Need for Changes?
About every six years, the DOE evaluates current technology, its efficiency, and how much it costs to use that technology. The goal is to find the right balance. More efficient systems may cost more upfront, but in the long-term, they can save you money by reducing the energy needed to heat and cool your home while reducing impact on the environment.
Enhanced Testing
While there’s nothing you need to go out and do as a homeowner, it’s helpful to know that HVAC manufacturers must comply with new testing standards beginning in 2023. As a result, you’ll see updated EnergyGuide labels displaying the new efficiency ratings.
Due to the new testing procedure, all Lennox products will be re-tested and labeled with new efficiency metrics.
